DR. DANETTE SCHWEERS

Dr. Danette SchweersDr. Danette Schweers was raised in Boerne, Texas and attended Southwest Texas State University as an undergraduate studying Animal Science. She then attended Texas A&M University for veterinary school, graduating in 1996. After graduation, Dr. Schweers served an internship in Small Animal Medicine and Surgery at California Animal Hospital in Los Angeles, with and emphasis on surgery, emergency, and critical care. The next several years were spent working in emergency care centers in California and later San Antonio. In 2000, Dr. Schweers opened the Animal Emergency Room with the goal of providing outstanding emergency and critical care to the pets of the San Antonio Area. In addition to surgery and critical care, her special interests include exotics, ophthalmology, orthopedics, and transfusion medicine. She served as President of the Veterinary Medical Association of Bexar County 2007-2008.Outside of the emergency clinic, she spends her time raising 2 kids with husband Roy, and trying to keep up with her 80 year old house. She continues to enjoy the Hill Country whenever possible, and enjoys occasional hunting and cattle ranching with her family.

DR. ALICIA GONZALEZ

GonzalezDr. Alicia Gonzalez was born and raised in Austin, Texas with her 2 sisters and 1 brother. Her start in the veterinary field began as Alicia helped open the first all women owned veterinary hospital in Austin where she worked her way up from kennel worker to head technician and passed the national exam to become a registered veterinary technician. She was part of this practice for 14 years where she continued to work during the summers as she attended veterinary school. During Alicia’s 14 years with the practice, she helped them become AAHA certified and personally went on to become the president of the AAHA organization in her veterinary class.
Dr. Gonzalez attended Texas A&M College of Veterinary Medicine and graduated in 1996.After 6 years of building her veterinary skills, Dr. Gonzalez joined the Animal Emergency Room in 2003 to continue her focus in emergency medicine. Along with an interest in emergency medicine, Dr. Gonzalez focuses in both general internal medicine & surgery, and has an interest in feline medicine and pain management. Professionally, Dr. Gonzalez is a member of AVMA, TVMA, and the Cambridge Organization of Professinal WomenOutside of practice, Dr. Gonzalez spends her time enjoying her dog, Lucy, and 5 cats. In her spare time, she loves to travel, going to movies, listening to music, and swimming.

DR. DAVID MCGOOKEY

McGookeyDr. McGookey started the first 8 years of his professional career as a Petroleum Engineer. Finally following his love of animals, Dr. McGookey attended veterinary school at Texas A&M and graduated in 1997. After graduation, Dr. McGookey headed to a practice out west to practice general medicine, quickly becoming the Medical Director of a hospital in Las Vegas, Nevada. After 4 years, Dr. McGookey returned home to Texas and became interested in emergency medicine and has continued to practice in both general medicine and emergency medicine. In addition to emergency medicine, his medical interests are in dermatology and behavioral medicine.

Outside of practice, Dr. McGookey spends his time raising 3 kids with his wife of 23 years. In his spare time, he and the family enjoy camping, exploring, vacationing, woodworking, music and sports. In addition, Dr. McGookey has served as a scoutmaster, basketball coach, and currently coaches one of his son’s t-ball team.

JacksonCesar joined the AER in June 2007 after moving to San Antonio from Mexico City. The AER congratulates Cesar for earning his RVT degree from Palo Alto College upon graduation in June 2008. Cesar, who is actually a licensed veterinarian in Mexico, has aspirations of attending Veterinary school and earning his veterinary degree to practice in the United States one day. Cesar oversees the laboratory of the AER. He compiled and maintains an essential Quality Control manual, which has been an invaluable tool for keeping the lab machines in tip top shape. In addition to the laboratory, Cesar has focused his effort in radiology to help insure quality diagnostic images.
